8)The party removed these lokations to erase there historical significance.By doing so they were able to erase the past.Because ther is no history there is no reference to how life was before the party took over, thus lowering the chance of an uprising agaist them. Also by eliminating the past you take away ones identity as a member of a country and as a individual.
If this was to happen today in the U.S I would most likly feel like im in a strang episode of the twilight zone.

1. I do believe Winston is in danger of bring arrested by the end of part one because he has comitted many thought crimes that he can be killed for. Such as writing in the diary, purchasing it,writing "down with big brother",thinking about killing the dark hair girl'having sex wit a prositute, thinnking about spending the night in the up part of the store,um talking to the prole about the past... many many things.
4.I think having a telescreen watching you 247 woulld be the hardest to bear.Just knowing thatyour being watched doesnt feel very nice being that you have to watch everything you say an everything you do. there is no privacy and if u make a wrong move u will be arrested.
7.Golstien is the enemy of everybody in London. He was a traitor. The party uses him to control the proles and keep them rauled up for when they need them to be angry.
2.The conversation had with the old prole basically said that the population of the proles in general were poor and if they thought they were free, were very easy to be controlled.
8.the reason why the party remeoved all these historical places was because they wanted to make sure htat people wouldnt remebr the past. Thhey wanted to erase the past and create their own. they didnt want anyone to have proof of evidence or pasdt when they wernt in control. If this was to happen in the presnt time i would be devistated. I honestly wouldnt know what to do,but it would be horrrible forr the future to come an children not know where hey came from.

1. I believe Winston is in danger of being arrested by the end of book one. Winston is the only real individual in this book. He wants love, he wants affection, and most of all he wants a revolution. All of these simple things that make Winston who he is, make him vulnerable to being arrested or even vaporized. He has commited thought crimes and has bought a diary where he can write them all down. Winston has also had sex with an old woman which is another crime. Although Winston is sneaky when he commits his crimes, I think he is going to get caught because nothing ever gets past BIG BROTHER!
7. Goldstein is the leader of the Brotherhood. He was also apart of the Party at one point but he began to engage in counterevolutionary activities. He was condemned to death but some how escaped. The Party has a need for him because he was once apart of the party but became the primal traitor. There is also word about him "hatching his conpiracies" somewhere.
6. Winston is alienated from is society because he is the only person who doesnt belive in the Party's ways. He doesnt show his true emotions for the Party but we know they are there. He is also anti-social and doesnt associate with those people who are in favor of the party.
4. Out of all the horros described in 1984, the most unbearable would have to be the telescreen. I dont like to be watched or odserved. I'd feel like an animal or an experiment if I was being watched every minute of every day.
8. The Party had all these things removed because they needed to erase the past and keep everyone ignorant of the way things used to be. If this was to happen in our present time I would feel as if the government was commiting a big mistake because erasing the past is like trying to erase the future; the past helped build the future and our present as well.

1. I think Winston Smith is in danger for been arrested because he bought a diary from the black market, wrote in the diary, talking to the Proles, having sex with the old lady, and more.
4. Of all the horrors described in 1984, the one that would be the hardest to bear would be he vaporization. Even when you are moving away from your friends and love ones, you cry because you know you will not see them in a while. So imagine your friends or family disapearing forver and you wont get to see them again, that will be hard.
6. I think Winston is alienated from his society because he hates the totalitarian control and doesnt believe in the ideas of the party. For example, the party wants everyone to belive 2+2=5 but he doesnt think so. And he did many things that will get him into trouble.
7. Goldstein is the leader of "Big Brother". The party think of him as the most dangerous man in Oceana.
8. The Party have all of the national landmarks, parks, buildings and historic parks removed because they wanted to erase all the history of the past. They didnt want the people to remember how life was before the party took over so people will think the party is trying to help them. If this was to happen today, i will feel like a nobody because i dont know anything about my country.

1. I think Winston is in danger of being arrested. The main thing he could be accused of is thought crime and writing in his diary. He won't get caught because Winston doesn't care about getting caught making him less suspicious.
2. There is no hope in the proles population in his wish to change society.
3. The 3 slogans exemplify paradox because they contradict themselves such as on which is Freedom is Slavery. How can u be a slave when u have freedom? It all depends on what kind of freedom. The proles have freedom but are Big Brother's slaves.
4. I couldn't bare not having the freedom of speech. I love to voice my opinion and bot being able to do would kill me.
6. Smith is alienated from his society because it seems to him that he is the only one who wants to see change.

1)i do think winston is endanger of getting arrested by the end of book one. he has committed many thought crimes, wrote in a journal, and thinks hooribly about big brother.he also had sex with an old woman which is illegal and nasty.

4) i think the idea of the telescreen and thoughtcrimes are a true horror. noone has any privacy in thier own house or even their own head. it is like everyone is just a robot that cant think for themselves.

8) the party removed every national monument, park and any other important place to have power. if the people werent conscious of thier past they couldnt rebel which gave the party alot of power. i think if this was to happen today it wouldnt affect us becuase we are more advanced and are smarter than people in the old times.

6) i think winston is alienated becuase he knows more than the rest of society. he probally more than the used to be past that society thinkd the party controlled. he is probally the only sane man or the only insane man in society.

2) winston found out that the proles are always going to be under the control of the party. yet they have knowlegde that could be useful at sometime. also that they dont think like he does that why he may think they are crazy or he is.

7) Goldstein is a inner party member. they have need for him because he knows too much about the inner party, he knows what they do and how he thinks about the inner party.

Brandon's Answers....

2. The conversation with the old man in the prole district tells us the the proles are slaves to their all powerful masters. They are the poor majority and will devour any scraps that the party will give them. The only thing they know is what the people in charge tell them.

3. WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. These three slogans haunt the world of 1984. They are paradoxes because they contridict each other. How can war be peace? In 1984, in order to ensure patriotism from the people, the country is always at war. If you're against the country during these times, you are an ex-patriot and should be punished. The same with freedom being slavery and ignorance being strength. The citizens' lives are in the hands of the party.

4. The hardest horror for me to bare from 1984 is always being watched in some way by someone. Privacy is very important me and for it to be constantly violated is dehumanizing. Another horror is being told what to believe. I'm against the war in Iraq and a lot of terrible acts our country does. But if I was a prole, I'd have no problem with it because my ideas are fed to me.

7. Goldstein is the enemy! His picture excites the proles with hate. He is the nemesis of London and his face strikes rage in the hearts of the people.

8. All of the national landmarks, parks, buildings and historical sites were removed by the party so people would'nt remember the past. And now i will quote one of my favorite bands of all time, Rage Agaisnt The Machine, quoting 1894: "He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past." Erasing history ensures whatever ideals you want to get through.

NOW TESTIFY!!!

1)Winston might get arrested at the end of part one because in brought a diary, and in his dairy he wrote down wit big brother. This is because where Winston is from big brother is the government and if you say someting bad about big brother you are to be kill and erased form memory

2)What Wiston talks about in the prole with the old man is if the prole get poor the prole will be eazy to control

4)In 1984 the hardest thing for me to bear is being watched by the government every hour of the day by a tlescreen

7)What Goldstein is, is the enemy of state and a member of the inner party. Why he is needed is because he is to control the proles

8)The reason why the national landmarks parks, building and historical sites removed is because big brother wanted to get rid of all history and nevr look back. If america was to do this same proceeder, i would be mad because i feel that we need to no our histroy, like to me black histroy is important to no what our people did to end racism and honor them.
